I enjoyed the book “My teacher sleeps in school” for a lot of reasons. First, the book was a book that I believed to be true at the time that I read it. I do not know why, but I did often believe that my teachers were not people that participated in everyday activities It would blow my mind every time in elementary school when I would see my teacher in a grocery store or Wal-Mart. It was amazing to believe that they lived a life outside of the classroom which sounds a bit ridiculous to not know. I also enjoyed the book because of the characters and the elephants. The book plays with the idea of fiction about elephants attending school and a teacher living in a classroom. Last, the curiosity of the students as a whole was intriguing because the students really wanted to know if she lived there and went looking for clues. Overall, I believe that this book does a great job of taking children’s thought about their own teachers and providing something at a young age that they can relate to. I really enjoyed this story. I like that the author creates a believable and relatable story using nonhuman characters. By using elephants as characters rather than humans, the author creates a sense of fantasy that keeps the reader engaged and interested. I also like that the author takes a common misconception that many young students have and shows the truth in a humorous way. Many young children believe that their teacher lives at school. The author of this book does a good job of capturing the real thoughts that students often have and creates realistic dialogue between characters. As I was reading, I could imagine real students having the same conversation. The message of this book is that although teachers spend a lot of time at school, they go home to their families at the end of the day just like everyone else.… (mais)

One day Mollie had something to tell the class. She thinks that Mrs. Marsh their teacher sleeps at school! And why not? She is always there when they arrive in the morning and she stays after they leave. The rest of the class wasn't so sure about the idea but they decided to look around. They found a towel, soap, and a mirror in the craft closet. There were bags of groceries by the play kitchen. And then there was a pillow and slippers under Mrs. Marsh's desk. Well, that just proves she sleeps at school! They spent the day thinking of where Mrs. Marsh would eat, do her laundry, brush her teeth, and sleep in the classroom. The class decided to leave a nighttime snack, a teddy bear, and a note, explaining that they now knew Mrs. Marsh's secret of where she slept. They hid the package under the desk and left for the night, wondering what Mrs. Marsh would say. Everyone arrived early to class, excited to see what Mrs. March thought of their gift. But Mrs. Marsh had a surprise for the class that day.

"My Teacher Sleeps at School" is a fun story for young children. Every kid wonders at some point in their life what their teacher does beyond the classroom such as where they live and what they do for fun. Sometimes these questions can lead to hilarious circumstances, as it does in this story. I loved "My Teacher Sleeps at School" while growing up. Since I was homeschooled, my teacher did sleep at school, which made me relate to this book. The story is hilarious and exciting, and is a read that children will love and enjoy.

Summary: Mollie is an elephant who believes her teacher lives in the school. She tells her classmates this, and they begin to investigate and find all sorts of things that they feel are evidence toward her living there. They decide to make her a care package for the night because they think she's lonely. The next day at school, the teacher takes them on a surprise field trip-to her house. She shows them her house-dispelling the rumors that she lives at school, and giving them a cake she made them.
Genre Critique: This is an example of fantasy because the characters are all elephants who act and talk like humans. However, aside from this, the plot and setting are all very realistic, which make the story fun and allows readers to get around the fact that the characters are elephants.
Setting: The time and specific location of this story is not really indicated. All readers see are a school and a house, and this allows the readers to picture it as their own current schools.
