Not very deep, but cute enough.  I think the very best audience would be a non-secular home-schooling family.  They could read On the Banks of Plum Creek, and try to figure out what Nellie's problem was, then read this, and compare their ideas to the guesses the author explored.  Almost nothing is known about the real" Nellie, so any theory is as valid as any other.  The only other audience I recommend this to is completists who just can't get enough of pioneer perspectives.  Laura's role is quite minor in this, and the rest of Laura's family only makes cameos. "… (mais)

Well now that was a sweet, interesting quick read.  Nothing revelatory, really, just a piece of the puzzle for fans.  The author (pseudonym Heather Williams) met my expectations by emphasizing Almanzo's interest in food!  Very good author's note about research and the choices she made, but unfortunately she doesn't confirm for us there the explanation in the text for Almanzo's name.  I suppose I could check out some of the books she mentioned/

Nellie Oleson does not like the dusty, dirty life in Walnut Grove. She is happy that her father owns a store and she can have anything that she wants - candy, dolls and fancy dresses. She isn't happy to meet Laura Ingalls and she doesn't understand why all the girls seem to like Laura. Nellie doesn't understand that being pretty and having things aren't the reasons a girl can be popular.
