Overall Opinion:
Let's get you the nitty gritty shall we? During the first few chapters of this romance novel, my enthusiasm started to dimmer down and I found myself dozing off ¼ through the read. The characters, their relationship and the general plot just seem dull and was a complete snoozefest. I could understand why some readers would enjoy this read but I just could resonate with "Flawless" and the fact that it was a long novella didn't help this matter since no matter how many chapters read or pages skimmed, it wasn't coming to an end anytime soon. Sadly this was a keeper and I buried it in my dropped pile.

'Being with Carson, I don't sense that I'm on the verge of something disagreeable taking over. He's black and white, easy to read. He's either pissed or pleasant. I may not know why, but I can always read his emotions. By comparison, Dylan is made of many hues in between that I can't interpret.'

Plot

Jessica Channing has worked hard at fulfilling her role as child prodigy and graduating years before her peers. Jessica is the brilliant girl, good with numbers, and working sixty-hour weeks. This also means that she's never had time for dating.

Jess' predictable life turns upside down when she receives a phone call from a relative's solicitor. Jess must visit the small and obscure town of Hera to deal with her relative's affairs; but this isn't just any small town. It's not long before distant memories come crashing around her, and two men seem to be luring her in.

Dylan Blackard is cover-model handsome, and is in pursuit of Jess as soon as she enters the town. On the other hand however, his brother Carson Blackard is more reserved, and carries his own secrets underneath a hard exterior.

Jess begins to let her guard down, and allow herself to have a fling with a man that she finds attractive for a change. However, she soon discovers that it's impossible for her to have a simple fling, as passion comes with very big strings attached. Jess must try to overcome her fears of love, and face two very different brothers who are both determined to have her.

My thoughts

This is one of the first books that I requested from NetGalley, so I thought it was about time I read it. The first thing I noticed about the book is the lovely cover; I was drawn in by the vibrant colours, so I decided to read the synopsis, and request to read it.

The book starts well, with some background information on Jess; what she does for a living, how she got there, her difficult relationship with her parents. It's made clear that Jess' life is very rigid and she only has time for work, meaning that her personal life is virtually non-existent. Jess then receives a call about a deceased relative and she has to travel to the small country-side town of Hera. I liked this part of the story, as Jess has to tear herself away from the hustle and bustle of big city life, where there are so many people that she's pretty much anonymous. Suddenly, she's in a small town, where everybody knows everybody, and it's impossible to keep a secret.

The Blackard brothers play a big part in this story, and they're introduced as soon as Jess arrives in Hera. Dylan is incredibly happy to see her, and over-eager to help her with anything she needs. It's not long before his true intentions are revealed, as he starts to make a move on Jess straight away. I did find this strange because it sort of feels like he's forcing himself on her right away. He goes from talking to her, straight to kissing her with nothing in between and it just felt wrong to me. However, later in the story I learnt more about Dylan, and some of his strange behaviour is explained.

Carson at first appears indifferent to Jess, almost like her presence is an inconvenience to him. After a few encounters, he does seem to warm towards her more, and she even starts to get rare smiles from him. As the story progresses, we also get to learn a lot more about Carson, and it becomes clear that he's not always as he seems. I straight away took to Carson more than Dylan, probably because he's more mysterious and more mature than Dylan. I'd find myself telling Jess to give up on Dylan and go for Carson, as I thought he was the better match.

Whilst I enjoyed this story, I can only really give it three stars as it seemed to drag in places. The book was quite long, which is partly the reason why it dragged for me, but I also found Jess to be quite irritating at times. I understand that she's inexperienced with men, as she's never had the time for dating with her hectic working life. But the way that she can't seem to make her mind up about anything related to Carson and Dylan throughout most of the book was quite irritating after a while. I think maybe if the book was shorter it wouldn't have felt so slow to me in places, and maybe I could have liked Jess' character more.

However, the story itself was good, and it did keep me entertained. I wish it had moved faster in places, and I probably could have read it quicker if the story had kept me hooked more, but it was an enjoyable read and I'd recommend it.

Came together at the end

Loved the idea of the story for Dylan since met him in Fearless. I did have a little bit of a problem with understanding Emma. Easiest description is I felt she was a bit too judgmental, jumping to conclusions for being a 'smart' girl.

The story sizzled and could be read stand alone. But recommend Fearless. I also appreciate the author's willingness to tackle a subject, mental illness, and give it care.

Oh my Carson

If you like stories about broody, alpha males who can't get the communication train rolling, this book is for you. Also, other reviews seemed to lean that this was a 'cheat' book. No just a ill fated relationship from two people trying to bury their real feelings. I didn't feel it was a cheat. One relationship ended before other began.
