Talk about cautious futurists: 100,000 years to play with, and the best they will forecast regarding longevity is that the maximum lifespan may exceed 130 years! They're oblivious to exponential progress, in areas like genetics, nanotech, and robotics, that people like Kurzweil think will produce a tech "singularity" in this very century and set the stage for things like consciousness uploading. The transhumanist scenario -- that _Homo sapiens_ will give way to a successor species -- never crosses their minds. They're content to make a long and detailed case that enviro-economic collapse is not inevitable, but they don't say much about just how the necessary cure for growth addiction would come about.… (mais)
