This story is written in prose. Since Emily is an American-Chinese artist, the long lyrical script seems to work out elegantly. The descriptions Wong uses are artistic and soft much like a Chinese painting. This story is mostly about a girl trying to figure out who she is between what her family, friends, and new boyfriend sees her as. While on this journey, she makes new friends, creates beautiful art and might possibly figure out who she is, in the end.

She goes through most of story within her own mind, and her artwork. It is still a beautiful story, and softly spoken. It feels like a watercolor painted on silk.
