Odd cook books

Descrição
A few cook books that seem unusual in one way or another. I'm eager to see more examples; if you have one, please explain why it's odd.

hipdeep: A cute little Muppets promo put out by Hallmark. Most of the recipes work but some are purely comical.

bluepiano: Issued by a small-town US newspaper. Even if it didn't include a recipe for smothered squirrel so special as to require the all-caps 'A DELICIOUS WAY TO PREPARE SQUIRREL' it would be odd for the ingredients of 'French Hunters Dinner': spaghetti, tinned corn, frozen beans, and chili sauce--just the thing I guess after a day of hunting wild boar in Provence.

hipdeep: Recipes written primarily for hot pot and toaster oven, from back in the day when bringing a microwave to college might have been a major status symbol (and rules violation).

bluepiano: I'm surprised to see 8 members have a book so terribly out-of-the-way--it's credited to the Girl Guides of Fiji for heaven's sake--and astonished that it's been reprinted more than a few times. Obviously put together for British ex-pats as, though recipes are ostensibly from various places in eastern Asia, some of them are for the likes of shortbread, marmalade, and scones. Bonus: instructions for making yeast.

bluepiano: Recipes from people in a small US city pub. 1975. Recipes are fine; it's the contributors' introductions to them that sometimes sound ridiculous to 2017 ears. One lives in a 'hermetic' teepee with a husband who 'argues with the I Ching'. Another dreams of 'the realization of a human society'. Another claims that 'I am what I am right now, if you know what I mean'. And elsewhere: 'You can get spaced out on just eating goodness' & 'MOVE WHILE YOU COOK AND ALLOW HAPPY, POSITIVE ENERGY TO FLOW FROM YOUR FINGERTIPS ONTO THE FOOD'. Not to mention the Living Salad Bowl (a happening, man) and instructions for making a far-out oven.

hipdeep: Not literally a cookbook, but I think fans of this list would enjoy it. It's actually a compilation based on a WPA project to document American food culture in every state in the 1930s. Ranges from followable recipes to descriptions of process without measurements or time, and culinary descriptions from detailed travelogues to slapdash notes.

bluepiano: Authentically Turkish, rather charming, but no doubt written for Europeans given the sometimes unlikely ingredients & its being 'published by German, English and French'. Recipes interesting for often having very short lists of ingredients--one of which, for 'Cheese-bread-soup', is bee-soup. Tells you how to make 'Woman's thigh balls', a not at all titllating dish of mutton and rice.
