I am fairly old-fashioned re: the way I like my literature. I'm rather fond of beginnings, middles and endings (not necessarily in that order), strong characterisation, imaginific descriptions, learned language, powerful rhetoric. Other than that I pick'n'mix through the centuries, bookjumping from Shakespeare to Jasper Fforde (I've got a penchant for books about books, or metabooks).
