Acerca da Minha Biblioteca
When I'm rating a book on a scale of 1-5, I tend to think of five stars as being more akin to an "A" than to a gold medal -- I'm not stingy about rating a book highly if I've really enjoyed it and it does what it's set out to do. In other words, five stars doesn't necessarily mean "this is the book that changed my life." It might just mean that it's a book that kept me absorbed enough that people kept having to ask me questions twice. Generally speaking, my ratings are as follows:

5 - Excellent, utterly enjoyable, well-written, entertaining. Highly recommended.

4 - Very good, also recommended. Possibly flawed, but not in a way that interfered with my enjoyment of the book.

3 - Not bad, but not wonderful. Flawed or lackluster in some fairly significant way, but still entertaining and not a negative experience.

2 - Seriously flawed in a way that impeded my enjoyment. Disappointing. Not recommended -- don't say I didn't warn you.

1 - Just plain awful, will probably be given away, traded in, or used as bird cage paper.
Acerca de Mim
I'm the director of Driftwood Public Library on the Oregon Coast. I read a LOT but I'm also something of a compulsive book-buyer, so I tend to have only read half of the books I actually own at any given time.
I read pretty much all genres, but I have a soft spot for science fiction and fantasy, and I tend to read a lot of YA novels as well. I'm also partial to British mysteries with eccentric and dashing detectives; Sherlock Holmes is a favorite, of course, but right now I'm completely in love with Lord Peter Wimsey and I may never recover.
