Acerca da Minha Biblioteca
Built up through my childhood spent hanging out at a used bookstore in my home town and then working as a used book jockey after college. It took two huge blows: first when I sold 1/3 to pay to ship the remainder to NYC for grad school, and again when I sold 1/3 in order to ship the rest to my current home in Florence, Italy.
Acerca de Mim
Just another East Bay Ray... I grew up near Oakland, CA, reading Harlan Ellison, Thomas Hardy, E. A. Poe. I relocated to San Francisco to study creative writing (Blanchot, Hemingway, Joyce) in 1982; abandoning both university studies and Baghdad-by-the-Bay, I first traveled through Europe in 1986, a novel idea in my head (H.D., Beckett, Kathy Acker, Kafka, and Alfred Jarry). There I fell in love with a fugitive Finn and the city of Rome (read Cervantes, Duras, Henry James, Georges Bataille). Later, in the 1990s, I studied Italian literature in Florence, (Dante, Boccaccio, Jane Bowles, Deleuze and Guattari, Dario Fo), and then comp. lit. in NYC (Chaucer, Virgil, Ann Radcliffe), eventually obtained a Ph.D., and wed a well-known feminist rock critic; together we co-edited Resister magazine (Patti Smith, Richard Hell, Jean Smith). Later, washing again upon Tuscan shores, I re-married and fathered a child as the millennium came to a close (Hubert Selby, Jr., Arthur Machen, Ezra Pound). Nowadays I rent in Florence with Debra A. Zeller (Margaret Atwood, Chris Kraus, Georges Perec), where I help American university students to study literature and writing (Malcolm Lowry, Pasolini, Rilke), spend my summers in California, and recite my own works—with and without banging on a drum—to anyone who’ll listen. My fiction, poetry, essays, and articles have appeared in Aql, Dark Ages Clasp the Daisy Root, h2so4, the Village Voice, Semicerchio, Resister, WTF, and The Book of Broken Pages. I write a literary column for The Florence Newspaper and I also wrote the "Crass" entry for the Spin Alternative Record Guide because no rock critic would touch it.
