Acerca da Minha Biblioteca
I have a huge art and dec-art reference library for my work but I also like to read first-hand accounts and mysteries. James Lee Burke is my favorite.
Acerca de Mim
My interests are reading, writing, and traveling but I was an avid collector for decades. It was one of the worst habits to kick. For 25 years I fed the habit as an antiques dealer. Shopping was half of the job description. Except for auctioneering, I was involved in all other categories of the business: picker, shopkeeper, mall operator, eBayer, restoration, schlepping, trading, hauling, PBS TV presenter, etc. Money wasn't the motivation or I would have dropped out sooner. My stated and actual objective was independence; I hate having a boss. I also hate commuting. Well, for 25 years I had no boss and did not commute but I also had no money; it was all wrapped up in the business. My shop was my home. I sold my storefronts in 2004 and retrained as an appraiser which is what I do now to feed my new habit, self-publishing what I write. Essentially, I am back in the same groove, or so it seems; however I am successful in a way I never was as a picker: I actually make money (appraising). What a novel idea (pun intended). I now divide my time between homes in Fairfax and Charlottesville, Virginia, with my Peruvian wife, Chany. In my "Picker Series," which is a semi-autobiographical novel that flows like a travelogue, Chany is Emma and I am Charles Dawes. The novels, all my books really, are written in the first person. Charles and Emma travel about Virginia, The States, Europe, and the rest of the world searching for undervalued treasures ("sleepers"). Most of the anecdotes are based on my real experience. Chany and I actually do travel extensively for business and pleasure. Give my work a try. Chany is in the process of translating "Picker" into Spanish. We have a trip to Machu Pichu planned for January 2014. No doubt that journey will become at least a chapter in my sequel, "Some Kind of Good." My professional website is mgrove dot-com. Polite emails are answered as soon as possible.
