Acerca da Minha Biblioteca
I have a library of approximately 600 volumes plus around 500 journals, magazines etc. (This is a downsizing of my original library of around 2,000-3,000 volumes , most of which were donated to other libraries on account of space/storage problems in my home). I specialize in non-fiction with an emphasis on the sciences, natural history, wildlife, martial arts, diving etc. I have a small selection of the classics.
Acerca de Mim
I am a biologist, astronomer and pioneer Sri Lankan diver/underwater photographer who has been diving since the mid-1950s. My research on sharks and marine life commenced several decades ago and the first comprehensive survey of Sri Lankan sharks was initiated by me in the late 1960s. I have documented several seabird, wader and land-bird species which were not earlier recorded from Sri Lanka. A landmark undertaken by me was thirteen-years research on the mass-migration of seabirds off the western coast of Sri Lanka. As an observational astronomer I have in the past recorded lunar occultations for both the Royal Greenwich and United States Naval Observatories. I also undertook a year-long study to monitor solar activity in 2002.
To date I have published more than 110 scientific papers, book chapters and articles. My current activity is writing (i) An Illustrated Guide to the Sharks of Sri Lanka and (ii) A History of Diving in Sri Lanka. I am a Fellow of the Linnean Society of London (FLS) and Member of the Institute of Biology (MIBiol).
I have been involved in the Martial Arts since 1968 and hold the rank of SHIHAN (Master Instructor) in Shotokan Karate.
I am now semi-retired
