Acerca da Minha Biblioteca
My library is large, I suppose by some standards. My mother and father were both avid readers. So is my sister who lives in Connecticut and sends me books she thinks I'd like to read. At times I read a lot on one subject then go on to something else. Like the Civil War, fascinating subject, so fascinating that with my wife, Dixie, I toured many of the CW battlefields. I enjoy reading biography, history, and fiction (adventure). I don't ordinarily buy hardbacks anymore, because I don't have much room on my bookshelves. I prefer paperback that can be stuffed in corners or passed on to someone else to read.
Acerca de Mim
Writing was always in the blood stream, but I am a slow, methodical writer, which doesn’t make a good journalist if one must meet a deadline. After earning my U.S. Navy Pilot’s wings and serving in Navy Patrol Squadron for a few years, I thought I wanted to become an aeronautical engineer. That idea morphed into a degree in engineering from UCLA and a career in highway engineering (don’t ask how or why). Flying for a uranium exploration company was a sidelight and a way to earn college money. It ended with the short lived uranium boom of the 1950s. Flying the Rim is a memoir of that experience.
Backpacking in the Sierras, if you get high enough, is a lot like flying because you get a bird’s eye view of the world. So I did a lot of hiking and backpacking.
I plugged away with aviation and outdoor articles and tons of rejections, learning some skills and attending a couple of Christian writer’s conferences, but that’s a tough market with a lot of taboos. Backpacking in the Sierra Nevada Mountains forms the background of my novel, The Mountain of Seven Gables. The first three chapters can be read free as an excerpt on my website.
I live in Sacramento where the mountain trails are only an hour away.
