At the initial writing of the book "Increase Your Typing Speed Tremendously" in 1990, H. L. Swann, Sr. was a word processing consultant, proficient in many word processing software packages. He had spent many years in the word processing field; writing mini-manuals that were used by other word processors and secretaries at various companies. He trained word processors and secretaries on various systems. He received various awards for his performance as a word processor. For a period of time, he and his wife ran their own word processing business in Baltimore, Maryland.

Since the writing of this book, he has gone on and become a Microsoft certified web applications administrator; a Jazz recording and touring artist, and he and his wife of 33 years have a total of 8 children and 11 grandchildren.
