In 1971, Mr. Jeff Maxwell offered the Library $90,000 if it could be matched with another
$90,000. Federal funds, contributions from individuals and corporate donors, and funds
from the Richmond County Commission enabled the Library to match these funds.
Funds collected were used for the construction of the Jeff Maxwell Branch Library in
South Augusta. The new building was opened in February 1973.
The Jeff Maxwell Library recently underwent a major renovation. We closed August 1, 2018 and re-opened on August 14th, 2019.
