After almost 20 years as a college and university president, I retired as president from Austin Peay State University (TN) in 2007. Today, I work fulltime writing.

A MATTER OF CONSCIENCE: Redemption of a hometown hero, Bobby Hoppe, takes readers inside my husband's historic trial for first-degree murder, giving a glimpse of "the man behind the mask." A subtle love story woven throughout the book reveals why my husband and I pledged to love each other 'til the 12th of Never. And, a surprise ending will astound even people who attended the 1988 trial.

I am co-author of Maxine Smith's Unwilling Pupils (University of Tennessee Press, 2007), the authorized biography of a civil rights leader. I have co-edited four published books (Jossey-Bass [2], Praeger, and Peter Lang) and authored eight chapters in three books.

My next book, SIPS OF SUSTENANCE for grieving the loss of a spouse, is scheduled for release by Wakestone Press in May 2011. FACES OF GRIEF, which explores the grieving process of those who have lost children, siblings, parents, and other loved ones, will be published in Summer 2011.
