Well, I'm the Jensen Kids' grandmother, and I'm cataloging their books whenever I go to visit.

Got to thinking maybe others might like to look at what my little ones have, for ideas. I know I'd like to look at other children's libraries too. And if by chance we brag about our kiddies, no harm done. Right?

I have neither kids nor grandkids thankfully, but if this is about books for children 5-9 I will love this group. I think one of my first loves of books was Eric Carle. You have to know who I am talking about. My favorite was the one about the caterpillar, can't think of the name, but it must be something simple. Then my first chapter book love was the Nate the Great books written by...actually I have no idea. I didn't pay attention to author names back then. But since my real name is Nathan, my family started (and still does) gave me the nickname Nate the Great.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar - Eric Carle

Nate the Great - Marjorie Weinman Sharmat

You have great taste, Nathan. These are wonderful. One of my grandson's favorites is The Very Quiet Cricket. The cricket goes through the whole book not able to make a sound. Then he meets a girl cricket - and a noise-maker in the back cover makes a cricket-chirp noise! It's lovely.

I've been told I have great taste. Yeah, there is only two series that is actually the reason I love books the way I do now, nate the great and the Harry Potter series. I also have a little brother who discovered a whole new series of children's books, my favorites of those being Skippyjon Jones by Judy Schachner and Neil Gaiman's The day I swapped my dad for two goldfish. Hmmm, the talk of these books kind of makes me consider adding them to my library. Yeah, I guess I should when I'm in a productive mood.

What a great idea for a group. I just (two days ago) set up an account for my 17 month old grandson and his future brother or sister. Thanks for the invite MerryMary! I have many favorites to add to their libraries in the coming years, but I will be searching here for ideas of more modern books. These will be my first grandkids (actually step) so I haven't had any experience with books for really young kids.

Apart from the fact that I'm an obsessive cataloguer, I'm cataloguing my daughter's books (klarusujunior) because I think it will be a really great record to pass onto her one day - a record of everything she's ever read. Then, if she's inherited my obsessive tendencies, she can carry on cataloguing as an adult one day and there will be a full record of all the books in her life from birth (because, quite obviously, LT will still be here then ... Lifetime Membership means 'lifetime' right?). I'm really glad I started because some of the early board books, I've already passed on. I still have some catching up to do, but that's what the Christmas break is for!

And for the fortunate members, great grandkids?
