I've an interest in reading this, but I'm not sure what edition to go for: a straightforward abridged translation perhaps, like The Travels of Ibn Battutah? Or a for-the-masses version like The Adventures of Ibn Battuta by Ross Dunn, which seems heralded. There's various other versions and edition out there as well.
I do think I want to steer away from anything earlier than Ross Dunn's 1986 version, and I'm not interested in attempting a full unabridged version.

I read The Adventures of Ibn Battuta after reading Travels with a Tangerine and was quite pleased with it. I was left with no desire to read the original.

You chose an interesting combination, since The Travels of Ibn Battutah is Makintosh-Smith's abridged translation (the same man who conducts Travels with a Tangerine), but you opted for the Ross instead. Was that a conscious decision?

I remember looking for The Travels, redacted or not, and I don't remember seeing Tim Mackintosh-Smith's version. So no, it was not a conscious decision. There was, as I remember, some support elsewhere for my choosing Dunn's book, but I don't remember what that support was.
