Oh wow. I wasn't aware this was out already... Probably isn't over here.

Release date was yesterday and the US Amazon delivers on release date in USA if you have a pre-order and choose appropriate delivery option (and I suspect other bookstores do the same). Mine was waiting me at the door yesterday... and all the e-book readers should have it as well.

I think the UK release is officially in a few days but I think that it is shipping already..

Just checked my Ebook store. Normal one Waterstones only had the hardback. BooksOnBoard had it, and at a reasonable price. Only after you've paid for it did it say, pre-order, download tomorrow.

Gah.

Want. Now.

Yeah - official UK release date is 28th according to a few sites I checked... :) But at least a few days is better than the usual delays :)

Just need to finish re-reading changes

Read and finished, and reviewed no spoilers beyond the first chapter. Hah I was right with my guess at the killer after changes.

Good but not great, takes a long time setting things up, but a great reveal / reworking at the end. I love how Dresden can do this, change everything you thought you knew about an event, without contradicting himself anywhere. Very clever plotting, and planning of the entire series.

Only one detail left unexplained - what about Bob?

I suspect Bob will end up being vital for something in a later book...

After Changes, I would place Ghost Story as merely great. Changes completely blew me away. I thoroughly enjoyed having Harry back, even if somewhat ethereally. Oh! By the way, Hello! I'm new here. This Librarything thing is a fine idea. My co-workers are not nearly the book addict I am. It is great to find a place where I can discuss Dresden and perhaps find a few recommendations. Cheers!

I had it delivered to my kindle as the HB was soooo pricey. I am glad I've read it, wouldn't have been able to wait for the PB to come out, it's just too readable.

Changes is still the best dresden book so far, Ghost Story was great and a bit interesting, but it seemed a little lacking, not sure if that was the new Murphy, Molly etc that we see. I am not at all sure how the next book will go, it's going to be a pretty complicated affair anyhow.

Yeah, something is going to happen in the next book with Bob, it does feel like there is something that should be happening/leading to him. Bob totally rocks!

Vicious, I totally agree with you on Ghost Story seeming to lack something. I think it was the whole Dresden being dead so he can't do his normal wup ass, take name, close case shtick (as much as he ever could, heh).

I think for me it was more that the entire book was about him being in a "state of waiting". Waiting to figure out what happened to him, waiting to find out where he goes next, waiting to find out what happened to different people.

I also have to admit, the reasoning behind his ghostness felt like a cheat.

14> Agreed. It almost felt like even though there was a plot and things happened, the novel never really went anywhere, there wasn't any forward movement. Unless I missed something it seemed like the only thing that really changed anything beyond this book was the very end.

I'm getting very impatient with the people in front of me in the library hold line. Read faster!

I, too, loved it, but I also felt like there was a bit of a cheat there. All the other Dresden novels either presented a conclusion that forwarded a longer plot or brought something to a resolution. To me this one really did neither. I hope Mr. Butcher isn't getting caught up in series-itis, where the whole point of the book is to add to a popular series.

I think it set up the larger story for Dresden to be dealing with everything on his own, sort of like saying good-bye to everyone he knew before.

#19 - Apparently he has a 16 book arc all planned out (at least in terms of major developments) so it won't be seriesitis until book 17 or 18. .... we'll see.

>21 reading_fox:

It's a bit more than 16, according to Wikipedia:

Butcher is currently planning for approximately twenty books in the "case files" of the series, to be capped by a further "big apocalyptic trilogy".

Hmmm, I think I may have to read this one!

Molly's becoming pure badass, at least with the fairy godmother's help.

Interesting how each person sees a book by a favorite author differently. For me, Ghost Story was the biggest disappointment of the year. I'm not giving up on the series, but it seemed to lack so much that made the others such great reads.

Okay, wake up here.

I've been listening to the audio versions of the series and here I am at Ghost Story. My library system only has the John Glover narration. Is it worth listening to? Should I forge into the future and learn how to download audio files? That seems to be the only way the newly released James Marsters narration is available.

I don't think Glover's narration is bad. It's mainly just a different voice than you may be used to by now. It's up to you how much you care about that.
