I just joined, but see no posts more recent that Jan 2010... so I am wondering?

Wondering the same. It doesn't look dead or even dormant. Maybe its species has some sort of rare hibernation. I've already got it on my watch list, and will be returning daily to see signs of its shaking off its slumbers and coming back to life.

I believe the founder of the group no longer works for Algonquin which is why the group went dormant.

How unusually kind of you to have found that out and passed the information along.

Best to you in working over there, and in keeping your interests in reading -- and all it represents -- so very much alive.

Did you want to try and revive it? As one once put it -- in a way that brings the reality home to me fresh each time I hear it -- "To die and be reborn is not an easy thing."

I'm game if you are.

Yes, let's revive it, but how can we get the other members to participate?

Personally, I think trying to increase numbers is as losing game. Everything becomes work that tires you out, and in the meantime you're letting go of doing the things you enjoy. If we start there, and the freshness can start to grow, then . . . that can become contagious. We can at least send a message to the mailbox of mysterymax, see if he's around, and let him know we're alive. I'll start there.

Just did it. Left Mystermax a message.

Hi, I am here! Mysterymax happens to be a she rather than a he, can I still join?
Just kidding... Yes, let's start and I think others will come along in their own time.

That makes three. Actually, aren't you two already members? The question is more, can I join? I don't even see the option for that listed -- probably since this was a dormant group, right?

As long as we make it enjoyable, whatever grows will be right. Since we've inherited the statement of purpose, how does it strike you two?

There is a "Join this Group" link on the Algonquin group page... With aluvalibri and ForeignCircus, GeneRuyle and myself that's four. See how fast these things take off! There is also an "invite others to join this group" link and perhaps if we each sent one to someone else... we'd be eight...

Ah, so Mysterymax is into the numbers too. That makes two of you -- (see, now you've already got me counting as well!). I'll go to that Algonquin group page - but forgive me if I don't keep track of the numbers as well as both of you. ;- )

Okay you two, I went to the page Mysterymax mentioned, and I'm now an official member too. What do you think about a photo -- any ideas?

Thought. Good -- then you're off to a fine start. With a name like that, how can you miss? ;- )

I started another thread about one of the Algonquin books I just read, Coal Black Horse. Didn't know if I should have posted it here instead... I also signed up for the Algonquin newsletter on their webpage and the first one came today. You might want to check it out.

Thanks for letting me know. I'll definitely give it a look. By the way, I think this group has decided to "rest in peace." And I am going to respect its wishes. ;- )
