Why November 8 & not on November 22 to coincide with the date of the title of the book????

AnnieMod that's a very good answer that I hadn't thought of at the time.

Naah - I actually wondered the same at one point -- there is a date, they could have used it.
On the other hand it is a Sat... so not that easy

I thought I was the only one who thought it was odd that the release date and the book name were different. Must be some publishing rule that he couldn't avoid.
7AnnieMod
Scratch that - looking at the wrong month.
22nd Of November is Tue... as is the 8th. So it is just 2 weeks earlier. That makes no sense - they could have done it on the 22nd.

Maybe events in the plot start on the 8th and work up to the 22nd, so one could read along in real time? Just a guess...

Stephen King could write a book about his grocery list or laundry list or what he eats every meal and it would probably wind up
being a Best-Seller and then made into a Movie, or a Mini-Series and people would still watch it too. I know I'd buy the book & the Movie or Mini-Series based on his grocery list, laundry list or what meals he eats or even what shows he watches on Television or Rents from his local Video Store or Red Box Machine.

#12 that just made me laugh!! (but it's completely accurate!!)

Thanks numbers 13 & 14. It just goes to show you how some crazed obsessed King fanatics would buy anything he wrote.
In the past I've bought books by other Authors writing about his books and movies and his Popularity as an Author. I also
collect TV Guides that were about his Movies or Mini-Series at the time, newspaper clippings abou his latest book or movie, about where his current book(s) stand on the Best-Seller Lists, and anything and everything that isStephen King related as I've said elsewhere. I've even seen his Rock Band, The Rock Bottom Remainders Perform Live, twice in the past. The last time was with Warren Zevon performing his Werewolves of London song. It might've been Zevon's last Concert or next to last Concert he performed in before he died.

The problem is that some of us have more than one author on that list. A lot more than one:)
Did you read the "Mile 81" short story?

No, not yet. I collect and read more Authors than just Stephen King & Anne Rice. Of
course, there's also:
Agagtha Christie
Ruth Rendell a.k.a. Barbara Vine
Jeffrey Archer
Clive Barker

Read the new Archer? :)
Yeah - it usually is like that - you either like more than one author or none at all.

I'm 99 pages in - just at The Janitor's Father and I'm impressed so far. Effortlessly he's given us guys to root for and a cause for them to fight for. The supernatural phenomenon involved is semi-understood, but not explained as usual. Dropped hints of terrors to come in the 1st person narrative...something he does very well. So far, I love it. I am at odds though - do I devour it or take small bites and savor it?
20beatles1964
King himself has described what he writes as being the literary equivalent of a Big Mac and fries. Personally, I think you should
take small bites and savor it like a great Gourmet Meal at a 5 Star Restaurant or a Speical Home Cooked Meal just for you. However if it was me, I 'd start with the Dessert first and then work my way backwards to the First Course of this exquisite and very delicious Gourmet Meal. But then again that's just the way I'd prefer to do it myself.

Anyone else reading this yet?
A large chunk of time takes place in Derry in 1958...yeah, King had to go back there. In some ways it's a nice touch; that feeling of familiarity and being on the inside of things. In other ways I wish he'd give us something new; this reliance on nostalgia in his readers is wearing a bit thin. And speaking of nostalgia, it always kills me when my parents' generation whines about how wonderful it all was in the 1950s. Then why did you wreck it all in the 1970s? Oh they blame Vietnam and the race riots, but really, it just comes off as whining. Aside from that, this is pretty enjoyable and he actually surprised me with a couple of things.

I haven't touched it in a couple days so will spend some time back in time with Jake. Yeah, another Jake. Sigh.

Received it from Amazon and started it yesterday: 11/22/11. Yes, I'm enjoying the symmetry of that. I'm excited about this one. It seems different from his other novels, which is a good thing, and it got a good review in the NY Times.

Finished it yesterday. Overall I liked it although it did have some rabbit out of the hat factors and that nostalgia over something his generation wrecked so that was ironic when I don't think he intended it.
