Somebody needs to write their biography!

I wish Marie Colvin could have lived to write her autobiography, but she would probably have been too busy reporting to have bothered. Who else has led a remarkable life and needs a bio?

I found a book plate in one of my books this week; and I sometimes manage to pull up some interesting tidbits about previous owners.
I struck gold with this one:

The internet produced some interesting facts about Elizabeth, full given name Charlotte Elizabeth Howe. She married Pittsburgh attorney, Frank Penrose Sproul, on Feb. 28, 1905.
In that same year, the NYT wrote a story about her and Count Cini, of the Kingdom of Italy. I can’t access the story yet, but it appears she had been his fiancée and defended him from some sort of slander. The story appeared March 5, 1905.
Hmmm. An interesting life already.
She was widowed by 1923, when she and her son, Frank Jr., leased a home at 320 Marlborough, Boston for several years. (Through 1926). This was a high end neighborhood then and still is. The histories of these homes have been exhaustively researched and documented.
Her son died in a plane crash in 1932, along with a few other society names.
She died in 1934.
Her will is in case law, as an example of protecting the trust principal from claims. A dispute between two heirs went to the Pa. Supreme Court in 1955.

Apparently, it was alleged that, during their engagement, Cini made financial demands on her and that that was the reason she ended their engagement. The letter from her lawyer denies that, saying that "during his absence in Europe she became aware that she felt a stronger attachment for the gentleman she has married".

Apparently, Cini made a habit of getting engaged (or allegedly engaged) to wealthy women. A few years later, there was a report that he was engaged to Mrs. Eleanor Magee, a widow with an annual income of $300,000 (in 1907). The article about that references his failed engagement to Charlotte Howe: https://nyti.ms/3XRcXxw Mrs Magee, however, denied even knowing the Count: https://nyti.ms/408690c

Maybe he needs a biography! (He was either the nephew or great-nephew of Pope Leo XIII; the stories are inconsistent on that point.
