I just got done with the rather huger-than-I-expected project of "pinning" all my 500+ book reviews to Pinterest. I was poking around in Groups and couldn't find one yet that was specifically addressing Pinterest, so I figured I'd start one up.

Here's my review "board" over there: http://pinterest.com/brendantripp/books-i-ve-reviewed/

As I noted in the group header, I was initially totally dismissive of Pinterest, comparing it to my 13-year-old daughter's proclivity of printing out pics of Johnny Depp from the web to tape up all over her room, until I sat through a webinar last week, talking about the business and social aspects of the service. Frankly, the numbers (if somewhat "soft" at this point) are pretty amazing at what sort of traffic these things generate, and the webinar was an eye-opener for me on the possibilities that the site had for driving traffic to stuff (in this case, my book reviews).

Anyway, I wanted to share this on LT, and figured that Pinterest was enough of its own subject that it warranted its own talk topic!

I "pooh-poohed" Pinterest at first myself, but then found it a marvelous way to arrange my interests on the web. I don't use Pinterest for book reviews, but I just started using it for Books I Would Recommend to others. I'm sure I'll find other "book uses" for Pinterest as time goes by.

Same here, Madeline. I've always personally despised the facebooks and twitter type websites of the social web. And actually, I don't like that particular aspect of pinterest, either. But, I love having an electronic bulletin board of stuff that I otherwise lose track of.

Perhaps pinterest's search engine has been improved. It's been notoriously horrid from the beginning; even if you searched for a specific phrase that you pinned yourself, it couldn't find it. I pinned something about LT 34 weeks ago, and it never showed in search results before. Now, I'm seeing quite a few LibraryThing pins.

Right now my only book-related board is for Stuff I'd Read, but I can also see the possibilities of a Stuff You Should Read board, too. I should set that up before I forget.

I joined Pinterest in order to collect kitchen ideas while we get ready to move to a sustainable home.
