I picked up three lovely hardcovers by Beverly Nichols at the Friends of the Library book sale, and took a peek inside but am not sure the writing style will work for me. I'm not a real gardener, more like an armchair gardener or literary garden enthusiast.... Have folks here read the trilogy, and what can you tell me about it?

Lucky you, Amy! I started the first one and couldn't keep it because someone else was waiting for it.

I know people have talked about and recommended them in the group Gardens & Books.

I love the drawings.

Beverley Nichols ist perfect for armchair gardeners, I think. There are by the way at least eight books in his gardens series:

Merry Hall
Down the Garden Path
Laughter On The Stairs
Sunlight on the Lawn
A Thatched Roof
A Village In A Valley
Garden Open Today
Green Grows the City: The Story of a London Garden

All of them good relaxing reads after a day at the office (or in the garden :-)

Amy,

Did you ever read the Beverley Nichols books? I don't see them in your library.

I loved A Thatched Roof, which is more about the house renovation. His relationship with the blue Bristol glass was priceless.

I'm afraid I tried the first one and the style really didn't work for me. I'm not sure why. :-(
