The New Yorker has a long article about Salman Rushdie and how the banning of his book affected him. I've always thought of him as a public figure, and I before this article I hadn't realized that he had never chosen to be one. It was something that happened to him.

BBC Radio 4 is currently broadcasting extracts from Joseph Anton by Salman Rushdie as their Book of the Week. See - but the programmes are only available on-line for a few days.
Joseph Anton was, of course, the name adopted by Rushdie when in hiding.

Finally started The Satanic Verses yesterday . . . better late than never I suppose. :) So far, I totally loved the opening with the two "angels."
