Holla, fellow Lters.

Can you recommend some Yuri-manga?
Somehow I can´t find them in the bookshops, maybe it´s just bad luck. I don´t know.
Please feel free to suggest.

Oh, as information - my favourite anime is Utena.

I don't know much about yuri manga in print, but there's a great scanlation site devoted to it: http://www.lililicious.net/

Oh, and I loved Erica Sakurazawa's Between the Sheets. I was grateful to Tokyopop for taking a chance on Ms. Sakurazawa, but unfortunately she didn't sell very well here.

You could make an pretty good argument for Read or Die being yuri-- or at least shoujo-ai. Other than that, I can't think of any English-translated, published yuri. I heard Simoun anime was licensed, though, so maybe they'll translate the manga soon.

Simoun will be coming soon, thats what I heard and Read Or Die - I know the OVA and thats not Yuri but I will try the TV-Series.

Oh, english translated would be nice, german translated would also be an option.

thanks so far

When in doubt, just ask the good women over at Yuricon:

English Yuri titles from ALC Publishing:
Yuri Monogatari 3
Yuri Monogatari 4
WORKS
Shoujoai ni Bouken by Erica Friedman
Rica 'tte Kanji! by Rica Takashima

I'm not going to make a list of all the titles with yuri themes that they listed, but just pick out a few that I know something about (or can recommend):

Alien Nine
Azumanga Daioh
Cardcaptor Sakura
Ghost in the Shell
Gunsmith Cats

Additionally, I am intrigued by the title at the bottom of the page: Weather Woman. I don't know anything about it, but it certainly sounds yuri-ish.

Ghost in the Shell has yuri themes? Seems like that's stretching the definition of yuri pretty far.

Major Kusangi is generally accepted to be a lesbian or a bisexual. Wikipedia explains it as such:

In the original manga, Kusanagi's portrayal differs from that of the movie. She has a much more slapstick, vivacious, and sexy personality. She participates in a lesbian sex splash panel and has a boyfriend. The in-universe explanation for the lesbian sex panel seems to be that cyborgs of the same gender are especially compatible. This splash panel is apparently a "side business" for Motoko, as stated by Masamune in the back of the manga collection.

metatext:
note that the scenes that have been described by lampbane were censored from English editions (at least the ones I saw).

The same article claims that the second English edition of the book restored the missing scenes. Which of course means I now have to go see for myself.

Yuricon, thanks for that. ^________^

Alien Nine
Azumanga Daioh
Cardcaptor Sakura
Ghost in the Shell
Gunsmith Cats

I know these but would never dream of calling them yuri. ^o^"

Yes, like above stated GITS has a lesbian scene.
It is missing from the english and german editions, but described in the Animania 18+ issue.

Gunsmith Cats definitely has some yuri content later, with one of the major villains and her penchant for putting other women in bondage gear.

That's why they (and I) said yuri characters or yuri themes.

In Cardcaptor Sakura the girl-crush that Tomoyo has on Sakura would definitely qualify as a character or theme. Especially since the relationship was passed down from their respective mothers (Sonomi and Nadeshiko).

But again, this thread was looking for full-blown yuri, which I... don't actually read.

Uh Oh?!

I think I have to say sorry for the use of the wrong words.

What I wnted to say was "An diese Werke hätte ich im Zusammenhang mit Yuri nie gedacht" (something like: I wouldnt have thought of these manga in therms of yuri).

But these things can happen when youre using a foreign language. So, sorry again.

For better understanding I am looking for something like Revolutionary Girl Utena not something with the most lesbian scenes.

I never thought of Utena as being yuri, but yuri-themed. It's usually just labelled "shoujo."

But again, the Yuricon people would still be the best to ask for recommendations.

I am not knowledgeable about yuri-themed shoujo (my knowledge extends as far as Utena), I mostly read seinen and ...more seinen, but isn't Rosen unter Marias Obhut (Maria-sama ga miteru) something similar?
