This is a deceptively simple question, and broadens, in my mind, to WHAT'S WORTH BUYING? I think that a cookbook is a Godly thing, and certainly worth a hundred of the novels about which there is so much palaver here on LT. I live way out in the country, so buying takes a different form with me. Last book I bought (just at the turn of 2012 to '13) was however, a novel. So much for my consistency and righteousness! It's Lucy Beckett's POSTCARDS FROM THE VOLCANO, to which I was led both by her previous novel (THE TIME BEFORE YOU DIE) and her incomparable non-fiction book on Wagner's PARSIFAL.

Bought a couple of health-related magazines yesterday. And brought home an ARC of Paullina Simon's Children of Liberty.

I was so naughty the other day. I went to a lecture at the Art Institute, and wandered (oh, okay, I did not wander, I deliberately entered) into the museum shop. Which resulted in:
1,000 ideas by 100 fashion designers, by Carolina Cerimedo
Baroness Elsa : gender, Dada, and everyday modernity : a cultural biography, by Irene Gammel
Eloquent line : contemporary Japanese calligraphy, a catalog of an exhibition at the International Sculpture Center

Purchased Gorgeous Vegetables by Annie Bell. Not quite as gorgeous, on closer reflection, so despite being inexpensive it may go back to the store....

Looking fwd to delivery of the monthly program guide to Turner Classic Movies. Just ordered it. I freely confess to the old-movie vice.
