Director, screenwriter and author Bryan Forbes has died at the age of 86. He is best known for directing the original Stepford Wives. His books include A Spy at Twilight, Notes for a Life, The Rewrite Man and The Despicable Race.

Actor Taylor Mead died May 8 at the age of 88. He was the author of Son of Andy Warhol and A Simple Country Girl.

Ray Manzarek, keyboardist for The Doors, died May 20 at the age of 73. He was the author of Light My Fire and other works. He, as a member of the The Doors, was also an inductee into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Speculative fiction writer Jack Vance died May 26 in Oakland, California, at the age of 96. He was a prolific author who influenced generations of SF writers. Among his many awards were the World Fantasy Award for lifetime achievement (1984) and the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America Grand Master Award (1997). He was also an inductee into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame (2001).
