Where's Your Book Blog?

Editado: Jul 3, 2007, 9:44 pm

Mine has slowly evolved from a mostly-book blog, to a book-personal-writing blog to an scattershot catch-all for whatever I'm doing.

I've been blogging for a little over a year now, but I'm still sort of a newbie at LibraryThing. My blog is kind of eclectic, but mostly devoted to reviews and reading-related posts. Here's where you'll find it - I'd love some visitors:

Editado: Maio 24, 2008, 3:05 am

You can find my blog at http://bookspirit.blogspot.com. I just started it a day or two ago, and its still kind of under construction.

Maio 24, 2008, 8:29 pm

I have several blogs going, but the most "bookish" one is "Joy's Blog" at:

I've had it up for a while now, but only recently decided to devote it mostly to books and reading. But for the moment it has other stuff, too.

Jun 15, 2008, 7:40 am

My book blog is...

Jun 22, 2008, 1:04 pm

Like many people, I also have several blogs, but my book-related blog is:

In the Shadow of Mt. TBR

I do the Tuesday Thingers, Booking Through Thursday, and The Sunday Salon, as well as post my book reviews.

Jun 26, 2008, 3:39 pm

My book blog is located at:

Jun 27, 2008, 8:37 am

Mine's at:

I'm determined to post at least 5 book reviews a week!

Jul 6, 2008, 3:50 pm

Wow, 5 reviews a week is a pretty big commitment.

My book blog is at: http://www.booklorn.com/

I'm still working the kinks out of the template. I'm teaching myself how to make a Wordpress template because I can't find anything I like, but my homemade template isn't ready to use yet.

Jul 8, 2008, 8:57 pm

Good luck with the 5 a week. It's a lot, but I hope you do it.

I just started mine not too long ago. Check it out sometime, if you have a chance.

Jul 10, 2008, 1:23 pm

Thanks for the good wishes! So far I've been doing well, been posting 5-6 book reviews a week! So if you haven't stopped by, please do, I'd love to hear from you!

Jul 16, 2008, 5:54 pm

I just started mine last week, but I have two going.

For book reviews:

I'll only be posting 1 review every 10 days. I'm not looking for work.

For book related, humorous stories:

I'm looking for anyone who would like to join in on this one. Drop by and check-out the second comment. It's from me and explans exactly what I would like to do. If you're interested let me know!

No money involved, just fun!

Jul 29, 2008, 12:13 am

Just started mine over here http://socialbookshelf.wordpress.com Its not just a place for me to post reviews but in the member review section post in the comment section the name of one of your reviews (the book name) and your email and I will post it in the review section of the forum with your name / link to your blog or whatever you have.

Editado: Jul 29, 2008, 2:44 pm

Before I had a personal blogs, but as lately I read a lot and take part in reading challenges, where I need to post reviews, I decided to create a new blog. So, it was "born" just yesterday :D

#26: retropelocin, TWICE in one hour? Wow...sorry I'm a bit late. I've been busy blogging and not checking back in on a regular basis. Gotta change that! I've found a lot of good info on Shelf Awareness, so I'm hoping you're finding it a good resource, too. I've finally got my 3 columns AND my widgets, so I'm happy and blogging away!

Ago 20, 2008, 8:01 am

Oh please share how you were able to get three columns and keep your widgets! This is something I've been trying to do for some time. I use blogger as well.

Ago 20, 2008, 10:39 am

Jen--I created a "test blog" so I could experiment without disrupting anyone who might be reading my book blog and then did a google search for "3 column blog templates". It took some trial and error because with several templates the code just wouldn't work. I finally found a template with code that would work properly in Blogger. Then I went to my book blog, copied the code from a few widgets, pasted the code onto the template on my test blog to see if they'd work. Voila! A pain in the butt, but worth it. It's still not exactly the template I want, but until I teach myself more HTML/XML/whatever, I'm happy. If you want to talk more about it, just send me an email-- cathyskye@yahoo.com .

Ago 20, 2008, 12:56 pm

Thanks, cathskye. I think I figured it out.

Ago 20, 2008, 5:08 pm

Great, Jen!

Ago 20, 2008, 8:03 pm

I found a site walked you through the steps of what you need to add to the HTML code to make it a three column. Easy peasy!

Out 1, 2008, 12:05 pm

I started a book blog in August:

It caters only to the romance genre, and blogs are focused on what worked and what didn't. Thus, it has spoilers, but the idea is to only read the ones on books you've already completed.

Always looking for guest bloggers, so if you love romance but you've plenty of pent-up criticism, please consider doing a guest blog!

And thus, Living Between the Pages: My Life in Books is born. Feel free to come and go at your leisure... I'm still getting my legs under me!

I'm over at http://kayespenguinposts.blogspot.com
book reviews, a little penguin trivia and an occasional recipe

Stop in, love to have visitors. I'm reasonably new at this so any helpful advice is much appreciated!

I started this year. Mine is called Reading My Life Away and can be found at http://joansbooks.blogspot.com/

As described, it is "A blog of book reviews (and the occasional discussion of literary and other book-related events)."

Maio 13, 2009, 8:15 pm

I have two sites. One where I post stuff, including Book Reviews and one where I post only Book Reviews.

Maio 13, 2009, 9:17 pm

As I read, I also review. Slightly haphazardly, sometimes wittily, always weird.

I've almost always included this link in my LT reviews, however, those who have not read my reviews (as well as those who have) can find my book blog at: http://blogs.delphiforums.com/dragonviews. The content is largely duplicated in both my LT reviews and on Dragonviews, however, those who are in the mood to dig will find original content on Dragonviews.

Maio 24, 2010, 1:13 pm

Mine is about an upcoming book: http://mallcopdiary.wordpress.com/

Jul 30, 2010, 1:51 pm

I've just started mine:

Ago 1, 2010, 7:23 pm

I just started too!

But I was wondering what people think of the pros and cons of using wordpress over blogger or vice-versa. Which do you use and why? I really like how easy it is to change the look of a wordpress blog, but I've heard blogger is easier to network with.

Any thoughts?

Ago 1, 2010, 9:19 pm

I can't speak to the pros and cons of working with Wordpress because I haven't. When I looked into starting a blog there, I didn't like what I saw (too complicated to work with) so I didn't start a blog. And time passed.

Then I looked at blogger. Frankly, I don't care for how blogger is built either (getting to the dashboard and other control areas requires non-intuitive navigation). I also don't like that, in the past, blogger has restricted friends of mine from accessing their own blogs - "checking to see if the blog is being used to spam people" was the excuse given just because the blog in question was getting higher traffic than usual. My friends had not done anything wrong, and their access was later restored. That was just Blogger's way of being overly assertive about their ownership of the domain... While this nonsense took place several years ago, I have not forgtten nor forgiven the Blogger team for being so aggressive for no good reason.

So, more time passed. I took a class on creating background graphics for your blog. I created a blog on the Blogger domain specifically for that class, but have essentially done nothing with it after the class ended. Why? Because the dashboard area is too intricate and difficult to work with quickly. It takes lots of time that I don't have to do anything with a blog there. The one nice thing about the dashboard area of Blogger is that from just one dashboard, you could manage multiple blogs if you set them all up under one user name and have need of more than one.

As for networking, yes, that's easily done on Blogger, if you mean "following" someone else's blog. That's all I use my Blogger for - the convenient links to blogs I'm interested in reading.

My book blog remains at http://blogs.delphiforums.com/dragonviews because I have not found anywhere I like better... even though Delphiforums provides only minimal features for the blog and you have to pay for a DelphiPlus membership to get the blog in the first place, and must maintain the DelphiPlus membership to keep the blog... The arrangement works because I'd be DelphiPlus without the blog anyway, so having my blog there isn't an extra expense for me.

Ago 4, 2010, 9:56 am

thanks dragones! your blog looks great!

i think i've started to get the hang of working with wordpress - you're right, it looks very complicated but once you explore it a bit it becomes pretty easy.

and what you said about blogger - well that's just ridiculous! i'm glad i didn't sign up with them!

Ago 4, 2010, 12:21 pm

Gee, never heard of those problems with Blogger and I've been there 3+ years. I have seen people though who have lost their blogs when fly-by-nite companies go under. (Back-up, back-up, back-up because companies never let you know when they're in financial trouble).

WP is probably a superior format, has tons of apps/widgets, but I've seen people like Inkygirl leave because of lack of security. (I forget where she ended up.)

But I (we, as there are 3 regular contributors) like things simple. Plus, Google scans us within minutes... to a few hours.

Ago 5, 2010, 9:42 am

I compose all of my reviews in notepad, so I have the basic text and HTML links (if any) saved on my hard drive. I also have backups of my backups... times about three... and most reviews are copied to at least one other website as well as being posted on my blog. I think I have the backups covered.

Ago 6, 2010, 6:13 pm

You are very wise 1drogones.

Ago 6, 2010, 6:28 pm

My blog is at thebookmama.com

It's a site for parents looking for great books for their 5 -12 year old (and maybe a little YA thrown in).

Plus I always add what I'm currently reading and the wine that goes best with said book.

There's a specific category for "reluctant readers" and some suggestions to get those little ones reading.

You can also find my tweets @abookmama. It's a daily quote from a random piece of literature.

My book blog is The Book Stop at http://thebookstop.wordpress.com/

I review literary fiction, historical fiction, fantasy, science fiction, and some young adult. No romances. Recent reviews include Tongues of Serpents by Naomi Novik, A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan, Just a Geek by Wil Wheaton, and The Passage by Justin Cronin. I read and talk about a wide variety of books. I also talk a lot about e-reading -- I love my Kindle!

Hope you'll visit.
