Edmund Sears Morgan died July 8 in Connecticut. He was 97. He wrote Birth of the Republic, The Puritan Dilemma and Inventing the People among many others. He was cited as an influence by Gordon S. Wood and Joseph Ellis.

Leonard Garment died on July 13, 2013. He was Counsel to the President for Richard Nixon and advised him that destroying the tapes would be an obstruction of justice. He wrote Crazy Rhythm and In Search of Deep Throat. He was 89.

Barbara Robinson died July 9, 2013 at her home in Berwyn, Pennsylvania. She was 85. She wrote The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, My Brother Louis Measures Worms and The Best School Year Ever.

Long term White House correspondent Helen Thomas died July 20 at the age of 92. A few of her books include Front Row at the White House, Watchdogs of Democracy?, Thanks for the Memories, Mr. President and Listen up, Mr. President.

Military historian George Paget, the 7th Marquis of Anglesey, died July 13 at the age of 90. He was the author of History of the British Cavalry, 1816-1919.

Television writer Elaine Morgan died July 12 at the age of 92. She was author of The Descent of Woman.

Journalis Henri Alleg died July 17 at the age of 91. He recorded his torture at the hands of the French during the French/Algerian War in The Question.

Children's book illustrator Marc Simont died July 13 at the age of 97. A few of his many books include The Stray Dog, The Goose that Almost Got Cooked and The Dallas Titans Get Ready for Bed.

Soviet historian and dissident Anton Antonov-Ovseyenko died July 9 at the age of 93. He was the author of The Time of Stalin: A Portrait of Tyranny.

A peer's daughter who knew the truth about the Happy Valley murder made famous in White Mischief, Juanita Carberry died July 27 at the age of 88. Her memoir was called Child of Happy Valley.

Anthropologist George W. Stocking, Jr. died July 13 at the age of 84. A few of his books include Race, Culture and Evolution and Victorian Anthropology.

Texas author John Graves has died at the age of 92. He is best known for his memoir Goodbye to a River (1960). He was also the author of many essays and stories about his home state. Graves was quoted as saying, "In a way, I was trying to explain Texas to myself."
