Do you still drink out of the same cup and saucer or mug you have had for the past few years, or do you like to have a change now and then? I have my 'old faithful' as I call it to drink out of - but I can't resist buying a new and pretty bone china teacup and saucer if I spot one on my travels, I have a dozen in my cabinet which I like to bring out when we have visitors, as they seem to make tea time extra special. But my faithful old mug which I've had for the past four years, has 'you're somewhat useful at work but irreplaceable at happy hour' printed on it, seems apt most of time ..

No, I drop my mugs too often to have one last more than a couple years. :(

I have 5 mugs total right now. Four extra-large ones, and a nice one my old roommate got me with a Borges quote on it that I don't use because I'm worried the quote will rub off. I don't really have a preference for one over the other. Having more than one mug means I can do dishes less often.

Another old roommate told me she was happy when she saw I was a tea drinker because in her experience tea drinkers have one mug and stick to it, but coffee drinkers just use any old mug (and thus would borrow hers). True? False?

Hmm .. it could well be true. Or at least I like to think that as tea drinkers, we enjoy not only having as part of our daily ritual our favourite brand, but couldn't do without our regular and much loved mug as well.
Some might even be a little OCD about it too ..!

There's a little mug my husband brought back from Japan that I love drinking tea out of.

Here's mine. A porcelain mug I made in college; It's been my daily driver for over 2 years now. Can't remember the name of the glaze -- I think it was a combination of blue cobalt and a rather brown base.

It's perfect looking and such a beautiful colour. Pottery has always appeared too difficult to me, a bit like patting the top of your head and rubbing your stomach!

That's a beautiful mug. The light makes it look translucent.

Having more than one mug means I can do dishes less often.

I have an entire cupboard full of coffee/tea mugs for this very reason.

Generous handle size and shape and ample fluid capacity rule in my kitchen. I satisfy my love of color by buying the same shape in different solid colors, so they are attractive on their own narrow open shelf.

A few have been around for 30 years, and have the chips to prove it.

When I'm feeling very special, I break out the mug my siblings bought me for my 40th birthday - now nearly 20 years ago.

I actually go through phases with my "favorite mug or tea cup and saucer". I may use the same one for months and then switch to another.

However, there are times when I feel a little guilty about buying new pretty ones and then resorting back to an old faithful mug. So, sometimes I force myself outside of my habits and pull out one of my pretty finds.

I've pretty much been using the same mug for about 14 years now; it just seems to fit my hand right.

I almost always use a Spode cup from a tea set I bought in a shop in London 16 years ago and carried home in my lap on the flight home.

I feel like I'm the odd one out here.
I have a dozen teacups (well, mugs, technically) that are used for all types of hot drinks because I don't just drink tea but enjoy coffee, chai, hot chocolate, etc. as well. And I live off hot water with melon & honey during cold and flu season.
My tea cups/mugs are white and match my plates, dessert plates, bowls and egg cups.

They look like this:

I have a handful of old favorites that are rotated based on mood, season, type of tea, and whether I have time to sit and ponder while I drink. (Not nearly enough of that one!)

I have a selection of favourites that hold most things I drink, but they are usually large size to save on the number of teabags I use in a day. If I'm using a personal pot, then I have smaller mugs or actual tea cups. My main annoyance is hand washing.

I used to be a pattern person as a kid. My favourite mug was something called "No. 1 (heart picture) breaker." I didn't know what it meant, but it had a heart so I was sold. Then, I started going for things that I could carry on my personal tea try with my personal pot and little sugar and cream things (I've also have several little pots). As of college I've stuck to mugs that I like the feel of. It's even better if they look great. I've also stuck with using certain mugs to save my stepmother the trouble of cleaning stains out of her matched coffee cups. She still have the large sized mug on hand just for me. It's the same at my mom's place.

I have a selection now of "character" mugs, that I rotate by inclination. I hide them now as visitors are prone to using them, especially my big black one that reads "meh."
