Hello perodicticus. Yes, I've been a ringer on and off for the last 30 years and I certainly would recommend it. There are plenty of volunteer programmes in most countries. A ringers guide book will help too - the standards used to be Lars Svensson's Identification Guide to European Passerines in Europe, and Peter Pyle at al.'s Identification Guide to North American Birds part I in North America.
