Time has come for us to spend our tiny budget for this year. We are pretty well stocked but I would like to add some books that have been popular in the past two years as we haven't purchased much for ages. Fiction, prayer, biographies, family life. I am being vague on purpose as I am sure many of you have enjoyed a good, inspiring title so would you pass it on to me for consideration. I would appreciate a short explaination of why you liked it. Thanks so much

I Don't Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist by by Norman Geisler and Frank Turek.

In a down to earth way, they use logic and science, and then the Bible as a way to prove and support their statement that they don't have enough faith to be an atheist. It is accessible to anyone of any belief system and know nothing of the Bible, but also deep enough to enrich those with mature faith.

Not popular, but gems nevertheless:

Spirit of the Rainforest by Mark Andrew Ritchie. Anthropologists may think that the Yanomamö live in paradise. They don't. These Indians want to tell their story, and they went to great lengths to produce this book, and even a movie. It's about the harsh reality of living in the jungle, a vicious cycle of revenge and constant warfare inspired by their spirit guides, and the profound transforming power of the gospel.

In the Land of Blue Burqas by Kate McCord. I haven't read much of the book yet, but I have read parts of the authors's blog. Kate McCord is fascinating in many ways, a woman living alone in the male dominated culture of Afghanistan, a culture much closer to New Testament Israel than to our own. There is rate insight, not only into the world of Muslim women, but also into many biblical accounts. An Example from her blog: Turning the Other Cheek.

Soul Physicians by Robert Kellemen. A systematic theology of counseling. That may sound rather academic, but this book is balm for troubled souls and counselors alike, applying the whole story of the bible to our lives.
