Hi all,

I am looking for two books that I read as a very young adult. One was about a child that created a city of paper plates and cups and then burned it, and the other is about a terrifying flying insect that couldn't be avoided and that haunted my dreams through grade three. I probably should not have been reading those books back then (1975 or so) but now I want to find them. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

You will have better luck if you post this in the Name That Book group.

I am sick of people who have joined yesterday don't read anything at all about LT don't read the group introduction and then
want some help. >1 kevindollar: is at least the 6th of that ilk.
If someone want to be nice and tell him to 1) look at Name that book 2) Read their advice before posting a redundant header message.
in Name that Book everyone is looking for an unknown book.

Go for it.

BAH.

>3 guido47: You are so fortunate to have never been a newcomer anywhere, nor ever made any awkward mistakes. You could just x the thread, you know.

>1 kevindollar: As aviddiva said, there is a group that does nothing but try to figure out requests such as yours. Here's a link:
http://www.librarything.com/groups/namethatbook
You'll get the best results if you read the instructions on that page before you post. Good luck!

>3 guido47: Please keep in mind that not everyone is as computer- or internet-savvy as you are. I am fairly savvy, but I still make mistakes and miss obvious things sometimes. I'm grateful when someone points me in the right direction.

Guido47 - If that made you sick I bet your neighbors love you. Hope your life gets better soon.

Thanks to the rest of you...I'll try there. Appreciate the advice!

Actually I just reread Guido's response and think I'm going elsewhere. I just prefer decent people and conversation and would rather listen to my neighbor's dog bark than to that type of comment. Thanks to the rest of you and closing up shop here.

>8 kevindollar: Please don't judge this site by that response. I 've been a member of LT for 9 years, and I assure you that is simply not the way most of us interact around here. In fact, it comes very close to violating the terms of the community guidelines. I hope you'll spend a little more time with us, checking out some of the discussions in groups that are of interest to you, and give us another chance.

Seeing what kevindollar has done to his profile perhaps this wasn't his site anyway.

Good grief. One guy is unpleasant to someone, several other people call him on it, but the someone decides that one comment from one person is enough to cause him to dump the whole site. Sheesh. I wonder if he even checked out Name This Book?

Ah, well.

I doubt he was here to use the site. I think the core "problem" is that LibraryThing comes up when you google for "what's that book"-like phrases, so we have a stream of people coming here just to ask that one question, with 0 interest in the site itself and with no intention of cataloging any books.
