"“When I wrote his life story, I looked over his library. Obviously, the liberation theology proponents always visited him and left him their books,” Msgr. Delgado said.
“I saw them, and they were like brand new, he never even opened them. He never read them, he never looked at them. On the other hand, all the books of the fathers of the Church were worn and were the source of his inspiration.”

Probably preserved somewhere. Also probably not available to be cataloged. Still, a good example of the "look at his library" technique. We lost a lot when people no longer had to cut pages on their books. But sometimes you can tell by wear.

Sometimes, for those who can afford to buy their books new.

As for the article, seems a bit depressing; the secretary seems to be making 'he "knew nothing about Liberation Theology, he did not want to know about it."' out to be a good thing. "I exist in a community that wants to discuss an idea with me and don't even want to know what it is" really shouldn't be something to be proud about.

Yeah, I have no opinion on the substance of it. But it doesn't surprise me. Romero and what-Romero-means-to-X were never the same thing.

I'd be very interested in this library.

This is the web site of the Monsignor Romero Historical Center which also states that his personal library is preserved there:

Anyone speak Spanish and want to ask them about it?

I have friends who are native Spanish speakers. I don’t think my Spanish is up to it.

"He never read them, he never looked at them."

Or, he was not the kind of reader who dog-ears pages and writes in the margins. The speaker seems anxious to believe Romero was not interested in liberation theology, but that may say more about the speaker than about Romero. I don’t think the appearance of his books gives us enough information to draw a conclusion.
