I just finished a fun murder mystery, Deadly Jewels, which is set in Montreal and involved the British crown jewels, Holocaust survivors, neo-Nazis, and the underground tunnels of the city.

Now on to Dancing Girls and Other Stories for the Margaret Atwood- Micheal Crummey challenge. I've only read the first story, and it was strangely unsettling.

>1 Nickelini: Thanks for starting the thread and mentioning Deadly Jewels! Glad to hear it was fun.

Currently reading Mon ami Maigret, by Georges Simenon, and working my way through The Rebel Angels, by Robertson Davies, for the quarterly group read of Davies in the Category Challenge.

Just finished The Moving Finger by Agatha Christie. Nothing to special, but not bad either. Not sure what I will pick up next.

I have just finished "Then There Were Nuns' by Jane Christmas. It came out a few years ago, and I was always intrigued by the premise of it. It's worth it.

I'm reading The High Mountains of Portugal by Yann Martel, a delightful three story book linked by themes of faith, evolution and death. The last story with Odo the Ape is defnitely my favourite.

Home from work, sick with a tummy bug, so enjoyed a whole day in bed reading The Killing Lessons by Saul Black- graphic and disturbing and fairly implausible at times, but very suspenseful.

I'm quite interested in these stories of institutionalized abuse by the Roman Catholic clergy in Ireland, probably because my mom was Catholic English/Irish. This wasn't the best of writing, but the story was moving: Sins of the Mother by Irene Kelly.

Two very different novels by two very different Scottish authors:
Emma, A Modern Retelling by Alexander McCall Smith and Even Dogs in the Wild by Ian Rankin. The Rebus novel won, hands down!

Currently learning about Hawaii in Sarah Vowell's Unfamiliar Fishes. Also trying to finish off Mon ami Maigret, by Georges Simenon, so I can give it back to its owner on Thursday.

Rodent / Lisa J. Lawrence
4 stars

Isabelle is in grade 11. Her mother is an alcoholic, so Isabelle is the one who takes care of her two younger siblings, Evan and Maidie. Normally, she tries to stay invisible at school, but on her first day at a new school, she gets into a fight, which results in her being bullied.

I thought this was really good. It's YA, so it moved quickly and was a fast read. I definitely felt badly for Isabelle and hoped things would work out for her.

Two novels read this week: A Dreadful Murder by Minette Walters, a rather middle of the road Quick Read which I just picked up by at my library because I usually really like Walter's novels, and The Lake Houseby Kate Morton, which I really loved despite its ending being a little too tidy. I haven't read a Kate Norton novel that I haven't really liked.
