This has been our Affirmation of Faith this month (this is not my church, just the only link I could find). Last week, after church service, a 70ish man suggested to me and my husband (the pastor) that it seemed to be "pushing a liberal agenda".

Face palm.

Did the fellow explain what part of the Affirmation he believes to be part of a "liberal agenda"?

I didn't ask. I simply remembered his Trump sticker on his pickup, and walked away.

Thanks for sharing this Affirmation of Faith, which I find very fitting, and definitely in line with Christian teaching.

It seems some people like to use "liberal" as a pejorative; I wonder why? Is there some perceived automatic contradiction between being "liberal" and "Christian"?

Earlier this year, our priest's homily was drawn from the Sermon on the Mount (that day's reading), and he was also accused of being political. There is a blindness and a disconnect, I think.

There is also the filtering out of those (whatever the denomination, religion--or none) whose personality, mindset, opinions etc. are fundamentally fascist--authoritarian jack-booted thugs in it for the smiting, in short. People for whom religion or any other ideology holds no attraction without the stench of sulphur and brimstone and promise of torture and murder for the "sinners" and unbelievers.

I live in Texas, and "liberal" is sometimes synonymous with "lying, nasty, commie, unAmerican, unChristian". Oh, and "babykiller". LBJ must be spinning endlessly in his grave.

So, exile, is that also how you define the term?

I am crazy liberal Texan...definitely in the minority nowadays here. Or at least it sure feels like it.
