What are we reading in December 2017?

Wow, I can't believe it's almost the end of another year already! Time must be some sort of supervillain....

Anyway... what is everyone reading this month?

After saying I was going to read it for probably more than a year now, I finally picked up Bombshells Volume 1: Enlisted. It mostly seemed like an origins story for the main cast for now, but I'm excited to see where the series goes next, so I'll be looking for Volume 2 sooner or later.

I just finished All's Faire in Middle School by Victoria Jamieson, and it was very good. She's the author of the popular Roller Girl. It's pitched to a lower age, as you'd guess, but she has a nice, light touch, and understands this age group.

Now I'm reading Poppies of Iraq and the ninth in Kaoru Mori's Bride's Story series.

I just read the first volume of Rocket Girl. Maybe I wasn't in the mood for YA, but it wasn't my cup of tea just now. The art was lovely, though.

I finished up Batman Noir: Dark Victory which was just sort of "eh." The story seemed too similar to many other Batman stories, and I started getting irritated with every chapter reminding readers that there was a serial killer on the loose and that Two Face used to be DA Harvey Dent. Seven chapters in, I think we get it.

Also finished up Harley Quinn: Kiss Kiss Bang Stab, which was enjoyable and funny, even if not perfect.

I'm reading the chunkster Uncomfortably Happily, out of Korea. Graphic artist and student wife move out into the countryside near Seoul. Pretty good so far.

Just finished Bitch Planet, Vol. 2. Next up I have Soonish by Zach and Kelly Weinersmith out from the library, and I picked up Iron City Comics' New World: An Anthology of Sci-Fi and Fantasy.

I've been reading all six volumes of batgirl the older 3 and the newer 3. Both are very interesting! Also Avengers, X-men, and the older spiderman comics with Mary Jane as his girlfriend. I'm not racist or anything, I just enjoy the older ones that portray spiderman white. I do like how they remade him into a black superhero though! :)

I read another middle-grade comic -- The Tea Dragon Society. It was a light enjoyable fantasy perfect for the target age group, but not exactly meaty. The plot was really rather thin and the characters weren't particularly well-rounded. However, points for showing a ton of diversity in the characters (race, gender, ability, etc.)

Hope everyone enjoyed the holidays. I had a little bit of downtime finally so I read a couple more comics. Cosmic Commandos is about a boy who finds a magical ring that brings his favorite video game to life. This comic seems like it'll be popular with its target audience of elementary/middle school boys, but wasn't really my cup of tea. The second book was The Escapists, which is based in part on the novel The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay. It was fun to see the fictional comic series from within that novel come to being, and The Escapists was very much a love song to comics in general.

Next up is The Secret Loves of Geek Girls, which is a nonfiction anthology of stories about romantic relationships, some told in prose form, some in comics.

I've wondered about The Escapists for a while now. Hmm. I'll try to get it from the library.

I got the second Sandman Omnibus for Christmas, so I've been revisiting that thought-provoking world.
