So wondering if any tea gurus out there also have some knowledge of little tea sweets to make for a tea service. I have a party now and then and my sister has been attempting petit fours but they always seem to cause a bit of trouble, especially the little cakes with fondant. Does anyone know of any good books, have solid techniques or tip when it comes to making tea deserts? We can make the cucumber sandwiches well enough. If need be, there is a little British bakery I can head to for specialty supplies.

Appreciate them, I can; bake them, I can't :)

For really good recipes for tea treats (though I don't remember petit fours off hand) I usually go to Tea Time Magazine. They have a range of options from sweets to savories.

Ooo, Tea magazine! My friend gave me an issue of something like that but darned if I can find it. I might have to hold another tea party again this summer and try some more baking. I'm usually searching pinterest for these things but articles with good instruction for us non bakers can be sparse.

I finally got to try real macarons! I've seen them on The Great British Baking Show and was delighted to find them on my vacation to Quebec City last week. They are like a meringue with cream inside.

now if someone could tell me how to make them... the bakers on the tv show seem so familiar with these that they take for granted that they are common, which may be true there, but not here.

>6 tealadytoo: oh my.... the pistachio ones look wonderful... so they are pretty much a meringue - all sugar and egg white. I love how the recipe gives very specific technique advice; I'm sure it will take a few tries to get the hang of the specific steps.
