*If the reference is to the great Ted Williams, the day might be the All-Star Game of 1941, which he won with a home run off the NLʻs Claude Passeau (Cubs).
*1941 an exceptional year for him as well, as Williams batted .406 (major league baseball's last .400 hitter).
Glad you dug that out of history, ghr4 (or, like me, out of a 10-or-so-year-oldʻs memory. ʻ41 was also the year of Lefty Groveʻs 300th and last victory, and the year of Joe DiMaggioʻs 56-game hitting streak.
The Boston Red Sox roster of that year contained 5 future Hall-of Famers: Besides Ted and Lefty there was Joe Cronin (ss and mgr.), Jimmy Foxx (1b) and the late Bobby Doerr (2b).
