Finished The Cuckoo's Egg. Cliff Stoll kept me on the edge of my seat with the thrill of the chase and had me chortling over his irreverent descriptions of his Berkeley colleagues and various "G-men" he had to convince needed to do something about a persistent hacker who has gained access to academic, industrial, and military computers through a myriad of insecure networks. Is anyone worried by cyber-espionage? Is anyone even in charge of the Nation's network of sensitive machines that guard our advances, plans, and confidential information?
How am I going to top "Egg" in my next nonfiction read? I'll have to select carefully. Have read about 100 pp of Barbara Tuchman's pre-WW I history of what was going on in Western Europe, titled The Proud Tower. Excellent so far. Think I'll keep plowing.
