Author who wrote about law and finance, Martin Mayer died August 1 at the age of 91. His many books include The Bankers and The Fed: The Inside Story of How the World's Most Powerful Financial Institution.

Wrestler Harley Race died August 1 at the age of 76. He wrote King of the Ring: The Harley Race Story and The Professional Wrestlers' Instructional and Workout Guide.

Highly regarded Shakespeare scholar and editor David Bevington died August 2 at the age of 88. He edited the widely used Bantam editions of Shakespeare's works (touchstones omitted since all complete Shakespeares are folded into one 'work'). His other publications included From Mankind to Marlowe, Action Is Eloquence: Shakespeare's Language of Gesture, Shakespeare: Script, Stage, Screen, Tudor drama and politics; a critical approach to topical meaning, and many more. He was a concert-level classical violist and a gracious mentor to many.
