I'm trying to find some guidelines here, but searching fails me.

I have just noticed that some author pages have links that go to search results in library catalogs. This is an extreme example: https://www.librarything.com/author/jonessherry

These seem misplaced to me. They are links to search results and not to static pages, and they are not about the author at all. But before I go on a deleting spree, I thought I'd check here for opinions/guidelines/best practice. I am convinced there will be a range of opinions on these, including the view that these are very helpful and should be left in place.

I've been adding WorldCat and Gutenberg Project pages as author links. I find those especially helpful while researching now obscure authors from a century or more ago.

I'm not aware of specific defined guidelines, but I deleted the second VIAF link and edited the first one with a permanent link to the author page. Also, I see no need for links to listings of author works in all sorts of places, especially not for author with only a several books. In general, these sort of links are put for authors that require clear disambiguation, meaning either that there are other authors with the same name and to be able to sort them properly, or for very prolific ones where authority pages and work listings are likely to be needed every once in a while. Otherwise, a single VIAF or ISNI link is enough IMO

>2 2wonderY: That sounds perfectly fine. Gutenberg links in particular are very useful for any author whose works they have. I also include them, or any others I know where public domain works can be obtained. As far as authority pages and work listings, 2-3 should always be more than enough, especially since VIAF author page, for instance, includes links to other such sources, be it worldcat, LC authority file, ISNI, etc.

I think the only guidelines we have is in the HelpThing:Author page (at https://wiki.librarything.com/index.php/HelpThing:Author):

"Links: A space to enter links to external sites relating to this author - their blog, their publisher's author site, interviews, etc. You can add new links or edit existing ones."

My opinion is that links to search results belong in LT member's Notes, not on author pages, as the list is meant to be temporary. Links to more static pages--such as an author's records in WorldCat, Gutenberg, and ISFD--are helpful and appropriate on the LT author page. VIAF is unfamiliar to me but appears from what others are saying here to be good for linking.
