two Golden Age authors missing from the Guardian list are: Dorothy L. Sayers and Ngaio Marsh... what authors would you add to the list?

>14 rhinemaiden: Welcome to the group, rhinemaiden, 🙂
One author who has attracted my attention, but I'm yet to try, is Freeman Wills Crofts (1879-1957). The problem is finding his books; I can find only one via my local library. I suspect I shall have to resort to free ebooks, such as those available with Project Gutenberg and the like.

>16 Sergeirocks: Amazon has several of his books...both in Kindle format and in paperback. There is also a site called Thriftbooks... that has almost everything he ever wrote. Shipping might cost almost as much as the book but they look fairly reasonable.

>17 Carol420: Thriftbooks is great - I use them a lot - especially for these UK authors we read that don't have a lot of books on kindle or pdf platforms (like Goddard, Beckett, etc.)

>21 gaylebutz: I have shopped with Thriftbook a long time ago but remember that they were quick to ship and very affordable. I don't buy many books but when I can't get it anywhere else they have always been a good resource.

I buy a lot of books on ebay.... from thriftbooks and worldofbooksusa.... both have reasonable shipping (sometimes free), and ship quickly. I have yet to be disappointed with the quality of what I've received. Most are in excellent condition.

I'm re-reading Jane Langton's God in Concord and noted that one of the chapter heads was a quote from an entry in Henry David Thoreau's journal dated 11/16/1851... exactly 168 years ago today! Made me smile.
