I believe I read this in 6th grade in the late 60s. I think the main character's name is Tilly or Tizzy but I'm not sure. She is a teenager who is used to city life and moves in with her girl cousin's family in the country. She thinks she is going to "make these country kids from the sticks sit up and take notice." On the first day at her new school she dresses in bright neon colors, false eyelashes, lots of make-up, and has an attitude that she is more worldly. She is eventually put in her place, learns some life lessons, and becomes a nicer person.

It reminds me of the Plot of "A Year Down Yonder" but I don't think that quite fits this. Check it out?

Similar plot but not it, as the book I read was published in the 1960s or prior. But, when researching your suggestion I found another beloved book I had long forgotten about - "Don't Look And It Won't Hurt" by Richard Peck, so thank you very much for that!
