Welcome to my second annual Catchupuary thread - 2020 edition!
Catchupuary, by definition, is any book began in the current year but, for whatever reason, was never quite completed.
Last year I began Catchupuary in Mid December, clearly, not enough time.
So this and all future Catchupuaries will begin the week of Thanksgiving and run till the end of the year.
Andrea Althoff
Here are patient books begging to be finished by December 31, 2020:
Apeirogon a NetGally to boot! *
A Study in Scarlet *
Anxious People *
The Death and Life of the Great Lakes
Norwegian by Night
Wish me luck! I'll also be attempting to read three books I have in mind as my neighborhood book swap selection:
Dutch House
The Lying Game or something else. I always seem to change my mind a gazillion times before I decide.

This evening I returned to A Study in Scarlet.
I'm taken aback with how part 2 is so different from part 1.
I continuously check to make sure I'm not reading another story from this Sherlock Holmes anthology.

A Study in Scarlet is complete. I think it is my first Sherlock Holmes and it wasn't what I expected.
Part I.
The crime was discovered in London
Observant Sherlock surmises what caused it and sets a trap.
Part II.
Why is the reader, all of a sudden, taken half way across the world?
Aaaaah, That's why!!
Both parts are well written stories. The imagery in both London and Utah is outstanding.

This is a great idea, Lynda, and I hope you are able to complete all the books you have listed.

Happy December!
On this snowy day, I’m going to revisit Apeirogon.

It's funny, two books I'm working on Apeirogon and Against a loveless world are very similar in nature.
Ugh, it's aweful. I look forward to getting out of the Middle East soon.

Good luck with finishing those books. I am not going to finish all the books I hoped (thank goodness for next year).

Lynda, What a creative idea! Unfortunately, I have too many books to catch up on that I could ever complete in December. But, next year, is a fresh year and I will keep this process in mind.
I think of you and hope you are well as the coming holidays approach. I was going to stay with my daughter and grand children in Beavercreek, Ohio for a week, but she and I discussed that the numbers of covid activity are high. I really do not feel comfortable flying at this busy time of year. Plus, both going there and coming home entailed layovers.
The recent ablation surgery left me tired. I'll see them in the spring when hopefully, a it will be safer. I am sad, but know this is the right thing to do.
Will your son be with you Christmas day?

>7 charl08: Thanks, Charlotte. I have too many distracting me and tempting me. The talent of focusing has gone out the window...unless all my devices get locked in the closet for a few hours.

Hi Linda! I doubt I'll be successful in finishing them all but if a little would be beneficial.
It's going to be quite a different Christmas for many. I think your decision to stay home is a wise one.
I think Ohio is now a quarantine state too which would affect your travel plans.
Normally, I would have 20 people for Christmas Eve but that means bringing many households together and the Governor is giving us dire warnings not to eat and drink with people not a member of your own household.
So although large Christmas celebrations will have to wait at least we're trying to protect each other and isn't that the greatest gisft of all?
Yes! Thank goodness Will is home from college till mid January so we'll be celebrating together. It's a good thing we get along so well....and the house is large enough to find space if one needs it.

A late entry to Catchupuary was Against the Loveless World I started it for November TIOLI but hadn't finished it. It was really intriguing and I didn't want to put it down. I finished it today.
Now to seriously read to the finish Apeirogon.

I finished Apeirogon! Innovative and challenging but well worth it.
Moving on to Norwegian By Night.

Changed my mind, Anxious People became available from the library, so I hope to finish what I started with that one.
Also, got a good start on The Dutch House for neighborhood book swap 2021 so it looks like that will be my entry.

Hurrah! I finished Anxious People! It was making me anxious - would I finish it in 2020? Yes, I did!
