Beach85 tries for 36 ROOTS in 2021

Editado: Dez 30, 2020, 11:17 am

Hi everyone,

Looking to pare down my shelves a bit -- though I can't promise not to acquire more than I Root out -- but I will try!

Dez 30, 2020, 11:35 am

Hi beach! Good to see you here. Happy ROOTing.

Dez 30, 2020, 12:25 pm

Good luck with your 2021 reading!

Dez 30, 2020, 12:34 pm

Happy ROOTing!

Dez 30, 2020, 12:37 pm

Welcome aboard and good luck! I think most of us struggle to keep our acquisitions lower than our ROOTs read... especially when everyone in the group is reading so many interesting-sounding books! ;)

Dez 30, 2020, 2:12 pm

Thanks for the welcomes!

My other reading goal for the year is to complete 8 of the many series that I have started and not finished. I have many of these books on my shelves, so it will be a twofer for me each time I read one :)

Dez 30, 2020, 4:29 pm

Welcome and happy reading!

Dez 30, 2020, 11:10 pm

Wishing you an enjoyable year of reading and ROOTing.

Thanks! I am hoping to post my first Root but I am starting the year with a few library books so it may be a while.

Jan 9, 2021, 10:03 am

First one down, The Guilt of Innocents by Candace Robb, part of the Owen Archer mystery series. I did not enjoy this one as much as other entries, but I will finish the three remaining books in the series this year as part of my other reading goal.

Jan 9, 2021, 10:18 am

Good Job, One ROOT down.

Jan 10, 2021, 2:21 pm

thanks connie!

Jan 19, 2021, 10:09 am

Second one completed. An advance copy of Come Fly the World. Very interesting account of Pan Am's role in the "jet set" age of international travel.

Jan 19, 2021, 11:11 am

That sounds interesting.

It was really good, so well researched.

I have a third root done, Face Value one of of The Rachel Gold Mysteries by Michael Kahn, a series that I am trying to complete.

It was a good one, though not the best so far.

Editado: Mar 3, 2021, 10:00 am

Another Rachel Gold Mystery. This one was one of the better ones.
Only one more in the series to go.
The Dead Hand

Fifth root finished, and I found a new author I like!

The Postscript Murders

Fev 1, 2021, 4:45 pm

>18 beach85: Hurray for finding a new author to enjoy!

Fev 2, 2021, 11:39 am

That's very nice, Beach. I've 4 of her books on my reader, but not this one. I will keep this writer in mind!

Fev 16, 2021, 10:21 am

This was one I have had on my shelves for a long time. The Clowns of God.

hi Beach. Just popping in to see what you have been reading.

>23 connie53:
Thanks for stopping by. I have been reading alot of library books but just last night I finished my eighth root,
Badger's Moon. I forget how much I like the Sister Fidelma mysteries until I pick one up again. This was a particularly good one.

Mar 19, 2021, 6:18 am

>24 beach85: I got a whole lot of ebooks from my brother and when I searched for this Sister Fidelma books in that list I found 15 of his books translated into Dutch. So maybe I will start the first one sometime in this year.

Terrific. I hope you enjoy it. The early ones are very hard to find here. Our big library only has the later ones, from around 2010 on. I have to scavenge used book sales and sites like Thriftbooks to find them.

Abr 4, 2021, 5:21 am

Just popping in to wish you and yours a Happy Easter.

Abr 11, 2021, 8:22 am

>27 connie53:
Thanks so much Connie! Hope you had a lovely Easter as well.

Finished another root last night -- a terrific one, and almost missed it as I don't read "horror" generally.
Secret Santa: A Horror for the Holidays Novel

Editado: Abr 13, 2021, 4:00 am

>28 beach85: Horror is not really my genre. But a fun horror story sounds good.

My Easter was really quiet with just our kids visiting in two shifts. It was okay though.

#13 The Day of the Lie

I have very much enjoyed every one of the books in this series so far. The lead character is a former barrister who becomes a monk, and is written by a former Anglican friar who became a lawyer. This one was a bit slower going than the others, but still good. I recommend these if you like cerebral thrillers with questions of morality, ethics or theology thrown in.

Maio 27, 2021, 2:52 pm

#14 Mrs. Jeffries Weeds the Plot
This is such a reliable series, perfect for when you want a quick, fun cozy mystery. Visiting with these characters reminds me of how much I used to love Upstairs Downstairs.

Jun 9, 2021, 9:46 pm

#15 Struggled to finish this. Really not for me.
cape may by chip cheek

#16 This was a terrific read. Will be recommending it alot this summer.
The Startup Wife

Jun 21, 2021, 1:21 pm

#17 Another very good Father Anselm thriller. Only one more left in the series as of now.
The Silent Ones

Hit the halfway point!

#18 The Leper's Bell
Another Sister Fidelma mystery.

Jul 3, 2021, 10:41 am

#19 Kennedy's Avenger
I learned alot from reading this -- fascinating stuff.

This series is so consistent -- the characters never get old, and the stories are always fun.
