You don't have to talk to yourself...you can talk to us. I'm not saying you're not crazy, but you certainly are special.

As of March 31st we have visited 66 states and 54 other countries this month. This gives us a grand total of 387 places visited. Let's see where April will take us. Bon Voyage!

New York was the most state visited with 10 visits, with California in second place with 5 visits. England was the most visited "other country" with 16 visits and Scotland was in second place with 5 visits.

Thank you to each of you that posted the country or state that your books were set in. I can find you even if you don't, but it helps a lot when you do.

Hi! I guess I try chatting.

>2 Carol420: In March, the books I read were set in mostly fictional places, such as countries that replaced the USA or in space ships that don't really exist. However, one short ebook was set in Australia. Another was in New Hampshire, USA. Do short story settings count?

>3 aspirit: I got your two books that were set in places that you would be able to find on a map. All books...short story or otherwise count. I used to have a category that was called "Strange and Unusual Places". A lot of people read the same genre of books that you do and the settings would fit in that category. I will add that one back on the Mystery & Suspense group since that is where this groups sites are kept. Does that make sense to you?

Just posting here to follow along. :-) And maybe I'll chat a bit...

>3 aspirit: Hi!

>4 Carol420: That somewhat makes sense. Do historical settings go under "Strange and Unusual Places" or the under what has replaced that area on a contemporary map?

>6 aspirit: That's a really good question. I would say that it would go under what replaced that area on contemporary map. The sci-fi books and the books that take place on space ships and places that are the figments of someone's imaginations are the main things that will go under "Stanger and unusual places". Some books are simply impossible to put anywhere.

Hello and Happy Easter!

Enjoying lovely spring weather with just a touch of cool but a fire in the backyard chimney-pit-thing. Lovely way to end the weekend.

I just watched the funeral for Prince Phillip. It was lovely...if that is the right word to describe an occasion like that. I do have to say that my heart ached for the Queen as she sat there all by herself...(I understand the reasoning behind it)...but still it was heartbreaking that at least one close friend or relative couldn't have been allowed to sit with her as she said goodbye to her heart of 70 plus years.

>11 Carol420: I caught bits and pieces, but more at the end. I never did see her sitting by herself (though I'm sure there will be plenty of photos and news report videos that I will see later). But, yeah, I did think that was very say.

Was nice to see Harry and William side-by-side on their way out.

>12 LibraryCin: They showed her twice. Once as the casket reached the alter and once just at the end when someone escorted her out.

I'm going to Chicago for the day tomorrow (Monday the 19th). Don't want anyone to think that I'm absent because I'm having tech problems again.

I'm sure it is pretty commonplace but many of the stories (at least one of which I read in April, Unhallowed) I've been reading are based in Massachusetts, albeit in a fictional town in Massachusetts. I like this as I am also based out of Massachusetts LOL

The Scooby Doo tie in YA novel, The Dark Deception was, of course, set in the fictional town of Crystal Cove, which I guess is based in California??

The book I'm currently reading, Wild Sky, is a complete fantasy so I have nothing to add there.

And here we are at the last weekend of the month and I'm catching up on LT. A day spent outside gardening and right now watching the sunlight through the trees, and then the next few nights spent reading.

I kinda like this end-of-the-month cramming to get the last items off of my reading list. I swear, if it weren't for LT and similar book sites, I would not be such a disciplined reader.

When I selected The Poetic Edda for this month, I thought it would be kind of a quick, weekend read. Nope. Not really. I mean, it's more than just the poems that inspired so many authors (J.R.R. Tolkien being the most famous-est). This edition includes footnotes that follow along with each of the stanzas. They give such a great bit of depth into the history/placenames/overlapping of the poems. They are worth reading, even when I interrupt the cadence of a poem to understand its backstory. I figure I can always go back and re-read the poems; I would not get such enjoyment from the translated cadence if it weren't for these footnotes.

If I could journey back in time, one space-time voyage would be to a meadhall to listen to these verses sung in their original language, meter, and musical accompaniment.
