Catalog field width query

Is it possible to adjust the width of fields in the catalog? They automatically adjust but sometimes they take up more space than needed. Thanks for any advice!

Have you tried changing your styles? If you set one style to be the basic information you use most and others to suit other circumstances you can use fewer columns in each style. It's very fast and easy to move between styles if you suddenly need to see different information.

My style D has all the Dates. E has Entry information. A and B are general styles, and C is really cut down so that I have space for special temporary additions.

>2 MarthaJeanne: Thanks, that is definitely food for thought. I have been refining one style, rather than using multiple ones, which I could certainly do.

Interestingly, today I made a new "collection" field, and at the same time clicked on the box to delete "your library". My thinking was that I wanted a collection identifier, which relates to a special collection within my library, books formerly owned by my late father - but I did not want every book being labeled "in your library", because (in my case) they all are.

Anyway the books involved disappeared, but maybe are in limbo. Doesn't matter because there were only a few of them.

Thanks again MarthaJeanne.

Are these (or rather the three that are not in "Your Library") the books?

If so, you were viewing the "Your Library" Collection at the time. There's a drop-down in the upper left corner of the catalog to choose which collection to view. This is often a cause of apparently-missing books. "All Collections" should show all your books. If they don't show up even then, there's a slightly-obscure way to find books that are in no collection (which should never happen), but your catalog doesn't show anything there.

>4 lorax: Yes, you are right, thanks so much. It does also allow me to pick out my father's books. There are quite a lot of them to be added, so great to get that right at the start!

Nice discussion! I've been using style A to give me something simple with just the Book_Id, but the above made me think that maybe I can use the export method to give me what I want. (Basically a list of all Book_Id's in a given genre).

Another recently discovered time sink is the fact that https://www.librarything.com/profile_reviews.php?view=bnielsen
gives me the Review Date for all my reviews in an almost useful way.

ETA: Exporting filtered with Genre: Mystery gives 922 books and https://www.librarything.com/catalog.php?specialpage=genre list 929 books, so it seems to work almost :-)
Genre: Business gives 14 books in the export file.
This looks like a useful feature!
