Overwhelmed

Hi folks, I joined LibraryThing a year and a half ago. So far I have learned how to add books and collections. Everything else looks sooooo overwhelming. Not sure what else to do so there you go. Looking forward to meeting you all.

Well it depends on what you want to do. Everyone has his or her own attitude toward maintaining catalogs and collections. Once you have that set, you can spend some time looking at groups, reviews, other libraries or fun stuff like tagmash. Feel free to post questions here and I'm sure folks will do their best to help.

Ask away if you have any particular questions. In general, aside from your organizing your own library the way you want, the other main part of site use is usually the social aspect, which happens here in Talk, so search through groups to find something of interest and join in.

My favorite bit is that there is a Library Thing app that you put on your phone, and take to a used bookstore. Then you can use the app to search for a book that you are thinking about buying to see if you already bought it.

>1 SharThom: Hello and Welcome.

If you want to find groups that match your preferences - click on Groups tab above; then, search romance and find several groups. There may be other words that you can search as well. You can search cozy - for groups that favour that genre. Ive been here a little longer than you and I am constantly coming across some group that I never knew existed. Some of them are defunct - which is sad- but you may find posts that interest you.

I dont do as much here as some, but I have made some inroads.

I am part of the Newbery Group. We are readers attempting to finish all the Newbwerys & Honors. Sadly we dont chat much- but that is okay, too. We mostly post the books as we finish them. I sometimes attempt to ramble about my readings.

I just joined the group called Roots 2023. This is where you can catalogue books that you read from your bookshelves. For instance, I keep keep getting distracted by other topics and rabbit holes - and forgetting the books that I already own.

I have recently become enamored of making lists. If you want to view the lists of others- go to Home/ click on lists. i have yet to explore them all - but i bet there will be one for cozy mysteries; and i would guess romance is fairly popular.

Combiners lets you find books that are the same and "combine" them. That took me quite awhile to master. If you have a favorite author- check out the "common knowledge" section- and see if you can fill in any information on that author.

Cant find a group that matches your eclectic reading? Start your own group. Talk to yourself until somebody else joins you. lol

There are plenty more things than I know to share- so ask random questions any time.

>4 al.vick: That's a good tip, I ended up buying a book that I already had, unfortunately. Now I know to check before I make a purchase.

>5 EGBERTINA: Thank you Eg,
I appreciate you taking the time to respond to me. I like that you said I can start my own group and talk to myself until someone joins in...very funny LOL. I will definitely check out the Romance group. See you around.

Al-Vick, I love that feature, for the same reason. :)
