Maybe it's just because I live in San Francisco, but it seems to me that authors of kink and sex-positive works are a lot more accessible than mainstream authors. Have you had the opportunity to meet, correspond with, or otherwise be in contact with one of your favorite authors from this genre? Did it or does it "live up to your expectations" after having read their work and enjoyed it? Were you thoroughly surprised by something about the author?

Since I come out of the science fiction community where authors are totally accessible, I can't say that I find kink authors anymore accessible. But a lot of them are as accessible. And some of them, like Cecelia Tan are in the sf community as well.

Early on I was pretty surprised by the women writing gay male porn. It certainly gave me courage to join in, back before I thought of myself as genderqueer.
